The Summit on Behavioral Health in Energy Country wrapped up a successful two-day run last week. It brought together mental health professionals, community leaders, and advocates from across the region.
The event, hosted by Vision West ND, aimed to tackle uniquely pressing behavioral health challenges – through storytelling. Day one started with powerful personal narratives, including Gaelin Elmore's keynote on youth mental health and a panel discussion featuring individuals who immigrated to the United States.
"I liked that they had so many resources available, especially the panel for welcoming new Americans," said one attendee. "They gave some ideas for working with a diverse staff."
The afternoon focused on practical solutions, with experts sharing successful programs for addiction recovery, reducing compassion fatigue, and supporting first responders.
Day two offered attendees a chance to connect and share best practices. Keynote speaker Jonah Paquette focused on "The Five Paths of Meaningful Connection," while Dr. Ethan Dahl presented on local suicide prevention efforts.
The summit wasn't without its suggestions for improvement. "I wish they would have included financial health ideas, " another attendee noted. Organizers say they'll consider this feedback for future events.
Overall, the summit proved to be a valuable learning experience. "Every speaker was so relevant to the work we do," said one participant. "It was my first time at the conference, and it was the best I've ever been to"
The positive feedback highlights the importance of the Summit on Behavioral Health in Energy Country. By fostering collaboration and sharing resources, the event can significantly impact mental health services in the region.
